Murra Month: ELIZABETH BARNETT
October 5, 2021

MURRA MONTH, our 31-day event showcasing exhibitions by your favourite Murrurundi artists continues with Elizabeth Barnett, who today exhibits brand new paintings that are vivid in colour and bursting with life.

In Elizabeth Barnett’s paintings, we are greeted with maelstroms of colour and texture, expertly composed, and masterfully painted. Barnett is an artist who, through her work, reaches out and pulls the viewer into her beautifully chaotic world. With her studio located at the foot of the Macedon Ranges in Victoria, Barnett’s botanical influences stem from the plethora of Australian native’s growing on her 12 acre property.

This new series of paintings departs from the autumnal tones of the artists May 2021 Murrurundi exhibition, this time favouring the summery sentiment of a brighter future. Painted during the Victorian lockdowns, this exhibition looks ahead, supplying the viewer with a visual antidote to isolation blues.

The popularity of Elizabeth Barnett’s highly animated interior and still life paintings have, in the last few years, propelled the artist to new heights. Barnett’s recognisable sentiment, seasonal colour palettes and iconic compositional techniques now see her broadly considered as a leading influencer in contemporary still life painting.
